In October of 1996, in Atlanta, Georgia, sixteen people representing
twelve firms met at what became the first annual meeting of the Association. Recognizing a need for an association to provide a forum to network, provide training and education and establish criteria for professional conduct, an organizing committee was formed. From this beginning, the Underground Utility and Leak Locators Association evolved.

The Underground Utility and Leak Locators Association is a not for profit association of firms and individuals that are involved in providing underground utility and leak detection services to municipalities, private property owners, industry, engineers, architects and others. Members work in the municipal, commercial, residential, industrial and swimming pool industries.

The Association has as its goal to establish and encourage a high degree of professionalism among its members, in its clients and customers, an most importantly in the performance of its services.
